Undefeated welterweight prospect Regis Prograis (17-0, 14 KOs), from New Orleans, Louisiana, scored a first round knockout last night against Mexico’s Aaron Herrera (29-5-1, 18 KOs) on Showtime’s ShoBox: The Next Generation in a headlining bout that capped off a four fight card. Prograis threw a thudding right hand to Herrera’s body that took the Mexican’s legs from under him and the fight out of him.
For Prograis, a southpaw, the knockout victory should lead to bigger fights against bigger names. Last year he called out Adrien Broner, the controversial junior welterweight who’s facing felony assault and aggravated robbery charges. If Prograis keeps putting together performances like he did last night, he’ll have a shot at a title soon. He has proven he’s ready for another step up in competition.
